I talk a lot about your creative channel. But wtf does that actually mean?
If you’re going to claim your creative power—the power of your human vessel—you ought to at least know how you move energy in the first place. As an animist, I believe everything has a spiritual/energetic counterpart—even your organs.¹ One way we understand this in Biology is that every aspect of your physical being has a morphogenetic field; a vibrational frequency that tells your cells how to organize themselves. And the same applies to your creative channel and the individual organs that contribute to its morphology.
Once you understand your energetic anatomy—the non-physical components of your creative channel—you can begin to understand how that correlates with your physical anatomy—the biological components of your creative channel.
When you understand yourself as a spiritual being, it might make it easier to operate that machinery here in the 3D.
Think of it this way: today I’m going to hand you the blueprint and next time we’ll discuss how you actually go about servicing the real machine. Because if you’re anything like me, you’ve been non-stop asking yourself: why does Gray keep recommending me all these somatic exercises and meditations? How is that going to help me feel more inspired, have more ideas, and make more visionary work? What about my intellectual realms?
Well, let me draw it up for ya. I like to use an elemental interface to approach creativity holistically. And what you’re talking about is the domain of the air element.
Trust me, it’s important. But not nearly important enough to warrant the emphasis we place on it. What we need to practice paying attention to is the somatic-environmental realms (earth), the energetic-intuitive realms (fire), and the emotional-relational realms (water).
What we’ll be focusing on most closely in this article is how fire creates the energetic field of information that directs earth’s physical expression. Together, they make up the morphic axis. Whereas water and air come together to create your metamorphic axis—water determining your internal resonance and fuel sources and air effecting their directionality and organization.
More on that later. For now, let’s get back to your creative channel.
Your creative channel is your inner axis
My intuitive understanding of your creative channel is that it acts as an internal axis connecting you to the worlds of Spirit and Soul. You can think of it like Yggdrasil and the well of Urd—as a great tree that stretches up through your spine, out the top of your head, into the various non-material spirit realms, and down under your feet into the underworld of your individual soul and embodied experience of consciousness in the material realm.
The branches of our inner axis collects information from the higher realms the same way a tree’s leaves collect carbon dioxide from the air, pulling in the details of our aetheric awareness as Spiritual beings and connecting us to energies and frequencies outside of us.
The roots of our inner axis pull information from the lower realms—from the wellspring of our individual soul, inner parts of Self, alternate timelines, genetic matrix, past lives, and ancestral knowing.
Whether you’re called to create lighthearted fluff from your creative channel or esoteric spiritual materia, there’s actually no separation. It’s not like some of us are channeling from the realms of Spirit and Soul and others aren’t. It’s just that there are a lot of entities and energies in these various underworld and overworld realms and they don’t all project the same kind of self-seriousness on themselves that we humans tend to.
They also, critically, are interacting with your unique channel—the essence of You—to produce an exquisite variegation of different outcomes. So one artist’s divine comedy might be another’s tragedy. One person’s science may be another person’s satire.
Your creative channel directs the flow of energy and information
As you collect data from the realms of Spirit and Soul, your creative channel moves this information through each of your energy centers or chakras in order to process, integrate, and direct it. As this energy moves through you, it triggers various processes and helps us to generate fuel (emotions, desires), ideas, and inspiration.
The way I see it is like one big chemistry set—a bunch of pipes connected to reservoirs where incoming substances interact with preexisting ones, creating altogether new substances. Real alchemy at work!
This process occurs relatively autonomously but sometimes requires our conscious engagement to keep things flowing. We use art and other forms of exploration to help the process along, facilitating communication between energy centers and supporting the movement of energy. These energies that come through your channel, when not cleansed away or rejected, reshape you just as you reshape them. And the product of that intra-action is that something is created—internally or externally.
Whether these energies are just here to change the architecture of You or be channeled into new architecture outside of you, whether their products are physical or non-physical, every expression of energy moving through your body is an act of creation.
This is why, as we’ll discuss later, limiting your creative process to just “making art” is a rejection of the full breadth of your humanity and why so many of us remain unfulfilled focusing solely on our traditional artistic pursuits, on the creative work of our daily life, on so-called “healing” work, or on deepening our relationship to Self and cultivating authenticity, while neglecting other realms of creative fruitfulness.
As human beings, I believe we’re meant to be expressed in all of these realms and when we block one energetic outlet, we put too much pressure on another one, and that area of our life begins to break down.
Leveraging the full energetic continuum
If you’re committed to a “high vibe” lifestyle, you’re rejecting half the spectrum of energies that wish to move through your creative channel. And those energies don’t just disappear—they find someone willing to express them. But they might also find someone who is unprepared to alchemize and channel them.
Whereas, if you recognize all those lower vibrational energies for what they are—raw fuel and a form of intelligence in their own right—you can direct them towards a greater purpose.
Take, for instance, emotions such as anger and jealousy—just two of the destructive forces of the universe. Not only are these emotions powerful energetic talismans, initiating transformative processes that support us in leaving the safety of our familiar comfort zones, they’re also incredible solvents, destroying what prevents us from getting our needs met or enacting our desires. Whether we experience these forces as expansive or contractive depends on our capacity to receive them. When we open to these emotions and their underlying messages, we create space for other emotions to live within the container they’ve created. Anger can point to our underlying grief, shame, or injustice and jealousy can point to our underlying worthlessness and powerlessness.
In these moments, feelings such as anger remind us that we are bigger than these diminishing emotions and that we have power even within them.
When we feel shame that makes us want to surrender our power, anger reminds us that we are allowed to be bad and wrong, to do harm and make mistakes. When we feel worthlessness because we think we can never have what someone else has, jealousy reminds us that we have everything we need.
Sometimes these emotions come to us as pure expressions of reality. We are angry because someone manipulated us into giving our power away. We are jealous because someone took something that did not belong to them. And in those cases, these emotions show us the path to recovering what was lost.
In such times, we can allow those emotions to restore us to our former glory, to find a path of expression that will lead to reconciliation.
We direct our anger towards expressions of whatever part of us was thwarted.
We direct our jealousy towards expressions of whatever was stolen.
The intelligence of these emotions helps us to process what was lost and illuminate what can be gained. Our destructive emotions shine a light on what is available to be created.
Our darkest emotions remind us of our individual power
The greatest intelligence our destructive emotions have to offer us is a reminder of our separateness, our individuality. The darker, more Marsial energies in this world exist to point us towards our own power, our own needs, our own directives in this life—they are powerful inspiration and motivation to remember who we are and what we came here to do. They remind us that despite the harmonizing functions of Venus and the world-bridging capacities of Mercury, we came to the third dimension to live in our own realities.
Without these so-called “low vibe” emotions, we could never create our dreamworld or come into our Godself. We would stay small and subservient and concerned solely with being “good.”
Just because anger might make us feel murderous and jealousy might encourage us to hatch harmful schemes to take from others doesn’t mean that that’s how we have to act on them. Low-vibe emotions might have less developed expressions, but in the hands of an emotionally capable person, they’re easily channeled towards more productive ends.
You can take all the energies of your own underworld and transform them into the fuel you need to create something explosively visionary. But you have to be willing to feel them first.
Stay tuned to find out how your creative channel functions.
I made this sigil to help you become a clearer channel. To unite the wisdom of the animal body with higher intelligence. To help you surrender to your inner madness and make art from a place of passion and intuition rather than ideals of perfection or worthiness.
To receive this energy, take a moment to stare at the sigil and notice where you feel it in your body. For best results, save it on your phone.
